Review:
The JetBlue Card from American Express is designed for those who travel frequently with JetBlue Airlines and would like to take advantage of the airline reward program.
Through the reward program, cardholders earn one Award Dollar for each dollar spent on the card. Two Award Dollars are earned for each dollar spent on JetBlue flights, restaurants, movie theaters, gym memberships, event tickets, and golf green fees. It is important to understand that 200 Award Dollars are equal to one TrueBlue® point, and 100 TrueBlue® points are equal to one round-trip flight. Card users receive 5,000 bonus Award Dollars after the initial purchase, which equals 50 TrueBlue® points toward a free round trip ticket. There is no limit to the amount of Award Dollars that can be earned, but TrueBlue® points expire one year after they are earned, and TrueBlue® awards expire one year after they are issued.
In addition to the reward program, cardholders can expect common benefits offered by American Express, such as various emergency assistance services, purchase protection, extended warranty services, and up to $100,000 in travel accident insurance.
The annual fee of $40 is reasonable as compared to other airline reward cards. The interest rate is above average for purchases and balance transfers.
Therefore, those who can afford to pay in full each month (to avoid finance charges) and plan to take advantage of the reward program will benefit most from what the JetBlue Card from American Express has to offer.
Second Opinion:
The JetBlue Card, designed for small business cardholders, gives you 5% discounts on any JetBlue flight that is purchased with the card, as well as 50 TrueBlue points for the first purchase made. Any other purchases will give the cardholder Award Dollars, which can be used toward gas, car rentals, merchandise and discounts on JetBlue flights. Not too shabby so far...
To drill down and really look at how this card stacks up to its competition we have to evaluate the monetary value of JetBlue’’s TrueBlue points. Using our airline miles to dollars conversion tool, we see that every JetBlue TrueBlue point is equal to about $3.00 cash. Without bogging you down in the math, that means you earn the equivalent of 3% cash back when purchasing JetBlue tickets and 1.5% cash back when using the credit card on just about everything else. That’s not too shabby when compared to other rewards cards, but the real kicker is that, as we mentioned, you get 50 TrueBlue points just for signing up and buying something, which is pretty much like getting $150 cash towards a plane ticket. So, if you are a frequent traveler or someone who is planning on taking a trip with JetBlue, signing up for this card can net you some excellent value.
